When your turned sixteen years of age, your mother passed down a diamond necklace that your grandmother passed down to her during her sweet sixteen party. When you were a little girl you mother always protected this necklace and only wore it during extremely special family events. If your mother took this piece of jewellery out of storage to wear, then it was an indication that the event was special indeed. The diamond necklace looked brilliant whenever the light from the chandelier would shine on it. Although you never told another living person, you really wanted your mother to hurry up and give this beautiful piece to you. Finally, when your sweet sixteenth birthday arrived you were filled with so much joy because your mother passed down the one piece of family history that you have always cherished.

You have always vowed that you would take special care of this fine piece of jewellery. At that time, you did not realize that it would take a lot of work to ensure that the piece would never lose its wonderful glimmer. It took you some time to learn how to properly care for your beautiful necklace. But it was worth it. The sight of your necklace still gets your mother all teary eyed.

Your diamond rings should be given extra care because it is so beautiful. When you do not take of these items, they lose their sparkle. It would be a shame for something so magnificent to fall from glory just because you failed to take care of it. You probably will not agree, but it does not take an arm and a leg to keep your necklace looking its best. The more that you take care of your precious pieces the more valuable they will remain. However, you must continue to protect them.

Understand that it does not require that much to ensure that heirlooms like your necklace receive the proper treatment. First, attempt to protect your jewels by storing them in the original box that they came in. If you do not have that box, then wrap them up in a soft cloth and store them. Not only will this be a place that is safe from damage, but it will also make it easier for you to keep track of it and not lose it. Second, take off your jewels before you go to bed each night. Do not sleep in them because you can easily snag them on your clothing during the night and loosen the gemstones and diamonds. Also, the longer your jewellery comes into contact with your body, the more chances there are for the oils and sweat from your body to discolor the setting. But if your necklace is ever soiled, then just clean it with soap, warm water and a small toothbrush.

All in all, this might seem like such a hassle just to take care of diamonds and gemstones, but think of the lasting beauty that you will receive in the long run. In addition, you want to make sure that your diamond necklace is in tip top shape for when you give it to your daughter on her sixteenth birthday. Sure, you could always purchase a new piece of newer jewellery online. But, it would be a shame to miss the beautiful smile that you daughter will have once she receives her beautiful diamond heirloom that has been passed down through the generations.
